Founded in 1917, Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organization in the world. Currently, over 1.35 million members in more than 200 countries. Lions are best known for fighting blindness as Helen Keller challenged the Lions in 1925 to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness”. Lions also feed the hungry, aid seniors and disabled, and care for the environment. Lions serve the youth of our communities through scholarship opportunities, recreation, and mentoring programs.
Lions motto is “We Serve”. In hospitals and senior centers, in schools, in regions battered by natural disasters, and in eyeglass recycling centers, Lions are at work, helping, leading, planning and supporting. Because we are local, we can serve the unique needs of the communities where we live. Because we are global, we can address challenges that go beyond borders.
